Cranberry Township has more to do than most buyers expect from a suburb. The Township runs its own waterpark, an 18 hole golf course, a working farm, and a park system with trails, courts and fields in every corner. Most of it is a short drive from any neighborhood in the township.
Here is a local’s guide to the places worth knowing, whether you already live here or you are deciding if Cranberry fits.
| Where to go | What you will find |
|---|---|
| Graham Park | Sportsplex fields, Fitness Court, fishing pond, walking loops |
| Community Park | Rotary Amphitheater, dog park, Kids Castle Playground, courts |
| North Boundary Park | Township Waterpark, disc golf, bike and hike trail |
| Cranberry Highlands | Township owned 18 hole golf course |
| Powell Farm | 71 acre farm owned by the Township |
| Municipal Center | Cranberry Public Library and the Armstrong Great Lawn |
Graham Park and the Sportsplex
The UPMC Passavant Sportsplex at Graham Park is the busiest park in the township. It has five baseball fields, including a Miracle League field, four soccer fields and three football and lacrosse fields. Beyond the fields there is dek hockey, an outdoor Fitness Court, a fishing pond, a community garden, and courts for pickleball, bocce, basketball, tennis and horseshoes.
If you just want to walk, Graham Park has three trail loops of about half a mile to a mile each. It is an easy place to get steps in while the kids are at practice.
Community Park
Community Park on Ernie Mashuda Drive is the gathering spot. The Rotary Amphitheater hosts summer events, and the park has three picnic shelters, the Rotary Dog Park, and the Kids Castle Playground. Courts include four lighted tennis courts, two public pickleball courts, two sand volleyball courts and a basketball court, plus five ball fields and a half mile nature trail.
This is also where the Cranberry Township Community Chest holds its summer Community Days festival.
North Boundary Park and the Waterpark
North Boundary Park is home to the Cranberry Township Waterpark, which offers swim lessons, memberships and party rentals in season. The park also has a championship disc golf course, an orienteering course, the Croc Cove Playground, the Veterans Memorial and a bike repair station.
Two trails run through it: the NexTier Bike and Hike Trail and a Nature Trail Loop, each a little over a mile.
Golf, a farm and the library
Cranberry Highlands Golf Course on Freshcorn Road is owned by the Township. It is an 18 hole, par 70 course with a driving range, lessons, a clubhouse and grill room, and the Audubon Pavilion for events.
Powell Farm on Goehring Road is a 150 year old, 71 acre farm owned and run by the Township, a reminder of what Cranberry looked like before the growth.
The Municipal Center on Rochester Road houses the Cranberry Public Library along with Township offices. The grounds include the Armstrong Great Lawn, the Grange Hall and the historic Sample Schoolhouse, and the building has a gym and indoor walking space for winter.
Skating, shopping and dining
The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, the Penguins practice facility, is in Cranberry and offers learn to skate, camps and hockey programs.
Most shopping and restaurants sit along the Route 19 corridor, with Cranberry Mall, Cranberry Commons and Cranberry Square all close together.
What this means if you are buying
Parks and recreation are a big reason buyers choose Cranberry, and the Township system is one of the most complete in the North Hills. Before you choose a neighborhood, it is worth knowing which park is closest, because that shapes your weekends. I cover the rest of the move in my Cranberry Township guide, and schools in my Seneca Valley School District guide.
