What the Rankings Actually Say
Pine-Richland High School is ranked #8 in Pennsylvania out of 741 public high schools and #455 nationally out of nearly 18,000 schools according to U.S. News. On Niche's 2026 rankings it carries an overall grade of A and lands in the top 10 public high schools in the Pittsburgh area.
Those numbers are not just bragging rights. The district sits in the top 5% of Pennsylvania public schools for academic performance. Math proficiency among Pine-Richland students runs at 72%, compared to the Pennsylvania state average of 38%. Reading proficiency is 78%, against a 55% statewide average. These are not marginal differences. They represent a district that is consistently, substantially outperforming the state in the subjects that matter most.
At the high school level, Pine-Richland earned Gold Status on the AP School Honor Roll for the Class of 2025, achieving that standard every year since the Honor Roll launched in 2023. The AP participation rate is 68%, meaning more than two thirds of students are pursuing college-level coursework before graduation.
The Schools in the District
Pine-Richland serves Pine Township and Richland Township in Allegheny County through six schools across about 31 square miles. Here is how the structure breaks down:
Elementary (K-3): Wexford Elementary, Hance Elementary, and Richland Elementary. Wexford Elementary is a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, one of the most recognized honors in American public education.
Upper Elementary (4-6): Eden Hall Upper Elementary, which was named a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School in 2019, one of only three schools in Pennsylvania to receive that distinction that year.
Middle School: Pine-Richland Middle School, also a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
High School: Pine-Richland High School, located on Warrendale Road in Gibsonia. About 1,400 students, WPIAL 6A athletics, strong AP and language programs, and a performing arts program that recently had its dance team qualify for national competition.
Two National Blue Ribbon schools in one district is not common. That tells you something about consistency across grade levels, not just at the top.
Community and Commute
The Pine-Richland district covers communities including Wexford, Gibsonia, Valencia, and Bakerstown, all in the northern Allegheny County suburbs. From Gibsonia you are roughly 17 miles and about 30 minutes from Downtown Pittsburgh. State Routes 8 and 910 run through the area, and access to I-76 makes the commute manageable for families working in the city.
Richland Township also has the 80-acre Richland Community Park, and the surrounding area carries the same outdoor, suburban feel that draws families to North Pittsburgh in the first place.
What This Means When You Are Buying
School district quality does not just affect your kids' experience. It directly affects your home value. Some nearby addresses feed into Deer Lakes or Hampton Township school districts instead. This is more common than people expect, and it catches buyers off guard.
